A chess clock is a device with two clocks, each with a
button. It's used to keep track of the time each player takes to make their
moves throughout the game. The clocks are set to a particular time at the
beginning of the game, this timing depends on if its Standard/Rapid/Blitz Play (refer 3 types of Time Control), and each player gets a set amount of time to make all
their moves. The clock timings are not changed unless an illegal move occurs &
the other player requests for additional time as part of the illegal move penalty.
When the game starts, the clock is started as well, so the clock at white side starts ticking. After white player makes a move, they press their clock button, indicating a move completion from white side, then their opponent's clock starts ticking, now its black turn, black thinks and plays a move and then they press their clock, this process continues until the game ends. Note that, a player can only press their side of the clock after they make their move. If a player runs out of time, they lose the game.

The use of a chess clock adds a whole new level of strategy
to the game. Not only do players have to think about their moves, but they also
have to think about how much time they're taking to make those moves. They have
to balance playing quickly while playing well. If they take too much time, they
risk losing on time. If they don't take enough time, they might make mistakes. What a struggle!
The chess clock has also made chess tournaments much more
exciting. With time limits in place, games are forced to end in a timely
manner, which allows more games to be played in a tournament. And, since the
clock adds an element of urgency, it can make the game more thrilling to watch.
